Fun Events for Seniors in Sonoma Co, CA

Staying active and engaged with the community is just as important in old age as when you are younger, if not more so. Sonoma County elderly care professionals have put together this list of a few things seniors in Sonoma County can do in the coming months.

1. About the End of Life Option Act

September 26

This bill became a law just a few months ago and gives terminal California residents the right to make end-of-life decisions they feel are best for them. At this program, presented by Dr. Dennis Pocekay, you and your family can ask questions, learn who is and isn’t eligible, and how to bring this topic up with a physician.

2. Senior Ballroom Dancing

Every Friday

Seniors in Sonoma County can get some physical activity every Friday at the Finley Community Center in Petaluma. The class goes from 1 to 4pm and costs $7 for members and $11 for non-members.

3. Writing Workshops

Every Tuesday

Many seniors find writing therapeutic and use it as a tool to document their lives. Every Tuesday from 1:30 to 4:30pm at the Sebastopol Area Senior Center seniors can share their stories with others, get help with writing skills, and be inspired by peers.

4. Chair Pilates

Every Wednesday

Pilates has long been said to be one of the best physical activities out there, especially for seniors. Every Wednesday from 4 to 5pm at the Sebastopol Area Senior Center seniors can participate in chair Pilates, which is designed to complement physical therapy and ideal for seniors who cannot lie on the floor. The class is $8 for members and $10 for non-members.

5. Legal Consultation

First Thursday Each Month

The first Thursday of every month seniors can schedule a half hour legal consultation with a local elder law attorney. During the consultation, seniors and their families can discuss health care directives, conservatorship, trusts and wills, and general estate planning.
