Many actors retire when they are relatively young, preferring to spend the money they have already earned. Others act until they reach middle age, then choose to retire. Santa Rosa elder care professionals discuss the lives of 5 inspirational actors who have continued performing, even after reaching age 80.

1. Christopher Plummer

According to Christopher Plummer, playing opposite Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music was the best role any man could have played. While his role as Captain Von Trapp became one of the most loved movie roles of all times, Plummer, who was born on December 13th, 1929, definitely did not quit there. He continued to act in many roles, including in the 2015 blockbuster Remember. He has also acted in several television series and on Broadway. Many people may not know Plummer has also written concert music. When he isn’t acting, Plummer spends time working on his farm near Wheaton, Connecticut.

2. Clint Eastwood

While Clint Eastwood’s last film role was in 2012, he has definitely not left the industry. Eastwood directed the 2014 production American Sniper and the 2015 production Sully. Born on May 31st, 1930, Eastwood tries to meditate every day and also enjoys reading and traveling.

3. Robert Duvall

Earning a nomination for an Academy Award is an honor at any age. Duvall, who was born on January 5th, 1931, became the oldest person to ever receive a nomination for supporting actor for his work in The Judge. Most recently, he acted in the film adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel In Dubious Battle, which is set during the Great Depression. When he is not busy working, Duvall loves to dance the tango in a custom-built barn.

4. Michael Caine

Besides Jack Nicholson, Michael Caine, is the only actor to receive an Academy Award nomination in 5 consecutive decades. If Caine, who was born on March 14th, 1933, keeps working, he might get nominated in the sixth decade of his acting career. He has just completed filming Coup D’etat, where he plays the lead role of General Anton Vincent. He is now busy filming Four Kids and It. When Caine finds the time, he loves to cook the food he lovingly grows in his garden.

5. Donald Sutherland

Donald Sutherland, who was born on July 17th, 1935, has just finished working on a romantic comedy called Basmati Blues and another film called Measure of a Man, which is based on a Robert Lipsyte novel. He also regularly performs for the small screen in the television series Ice. Sutherland is very politically active and served important roles in the election of President Obama.
